The Koffiefontein exploration project comprises three Prospecting Rights covering 18 farms over a combined area of nearly 11,000 hectares. The Project is located 50km SE of Kimberley and 20Km NE of the historic Koffiefontein clusters in the Free State. The Rights were previously held by CFM Diamonds and were ceded to Koffiefontein Diamonds, a subsidiary of KimCor.
Exploration is at an early stage but preliminary results are encouraging with the presence of kimberlite clearly evident in old, shallow pits on the licences being supported by a comprehensive airborne magnetic survey completed in 2002 that broadly delineated a host of additional targets for follow-up. One target in particular, the Nooitgedacht farm site, has been subsequently proven to host a 2.0 hectare kimberlite. Recent confirmatory percussion drilling undertaken by KimCor recovered an impressive suite of diamond indicator minerals. Historical exploration in and around the Nooitgedacht kimberlite produced mixed results which it is believed reflect the complicated nature of the multiple phases of intrusion associated with the structure. Further work is required to establish which phases of kimberlite intrusion are diamond bearing and thereafter whether the resulting resource represents an economically viable proposition.
At the same time further follow-up work will be conducted on the multiple geophysical targets previously identified.
