Bellsbank - Diamond dump reclamation project

The Bellsbank dump processing operation is located 100 kilometres from Kimberley. Approximately 3.8 million tonnes of tailing dump material has been identified within the project area, all of which will be processed.

KimCor became the 100% owner of the diamond-bearing Bellsbank dumps on its acquisition of Free State Diamond Mines (Pty) Limited in 2005. A new diamond recovery plant was built on site, and commissioned in late 2006.

A shortage of water for processing that hampered production during the early part of 2007 was resolved by reaching agreement with another local mining company to source excess water by means of a new pipeline and pump system funded and maintained by KimCor.

Bellsbank mine management is also in the process of changing the plant design such that the final concentrate recovery process will in future take place at the Company's Central Processing Facility in Kimberley. This design change will reduce the current Bellsbank water consumption rate by up to 30 per cent which in turn provides additional water for tailing processing.

Bellsbank announced a strategic change in its mining plan in 2007 whereby the Company was able to negotiate improved terms with its resident mining contractor, introduced a new more cost effective waste disposal system and outlined a proposal to significantly increase production rates from the original plant design capacity of 700,000 tonnes per annum ('tpa') up to 1.4 million tpa through the introduction of a dense media separation unit and a pre-concentrate plant. These capital projects have been approved by the KimCor board and implementation has started, with the installation of the DMS unit completed in September 2007.
